[Also in Divisions E1 and E2] A joint for connecting pipe sections of similar cross-section comprises a deformable liner 26 adapted to surround a part of each section, an inner sleeve 24 adapted to surround at least part of the liner, and an outer sleeve 22, the shape of the sleeves being such that when the outer sleeve is drawn over the inner sleeve, it presses part of the inner sleeve inwardly to deform the liner into a gripping relationship with the pipe sections. As shown, a shoulder 38 on the inner sleeve 24 engages shoulder 32 on sleeve 22 to limit relative longitudinal movement of the two. The inner sleeve is slotted (Fig. 5, not shown) and the surfaces between the slots 42 are pressed against the liner 26 by the inwardly bent portion 34 of the outer sleeve. In a modification (Figs. 8 to 10, not shown) the liner instead of being a onepiece solid part is formed of a number of parts and in the modification illustrated by Figs. 12 to 13 (not shown) the liner is formed by spirally winding a strip of flexible rubber or plastics around the abutment of the sections. In a modification illustrated by Figs. 15 to 18 (not shown) the outer sleeve comprises two parts having flanges which bolt on to a flange welded to the centre of the inner sleeve.
