Abstract
983,477. Mixing appliances. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 20, 1964 [Feb. 8, 1963], No. 5265/63. Heading B1C. Apparatus for mixing the ingredients of polyurethane foams comprises a mixing chamber A having inlets B for air and the polyurethane ingredients, an outlet tube G arranged to allow material in excess of a predetermined amount to flow out of the chamber and a rotatable agitator E to ensure that the material follows a tortuous path. As shown the agitator E and outlet G are concentric tubes and the latter is axially adjustable to vary the amount retained in the chamber. The agitator may have stirring ,vanes F; and M is an air vent fitted with a self-acting relief valve. The apparatus may be used for batch mixing by raising the tube G to the highest position and filling to a level below its top H; it may then be discharged by lowering the tube G to its lowest position and/or introducing compressed air through B.
