Abstract
982,614. Spray-producers. M. VIARD. Jan. 18, 1963 [Feb. 8, 1962], No. 2231/63. Heading B2F. In a portable liquid sprayer in which depression of a spring-loaded push button 7 forces air from a chamber 10 to eject as a liquid-laden spray through an orifice 11 having entrained liquid contained in a felt disc 18, a plunger rod 20 depends from the button such that a passageway 21 formed therein provides at the inner limit of the button travel, communication between the disc and a reservoir 1. When used initially, repeated depressions of the button are necessary to pressurize the air above the liquid 2, part of the air from the chamber 10 passing through the passageway 21 on every depression. Such pressurization eventually forces liquid to pass through a pipe 15 and nozzle 14 up around the annular clearance e between rod and nozzle such that it flows through the passageway when the rod is next at its lowermost position. As the liquid level in the reservoir drops it is necessary to periodically re-pressurize the air in the reservoir by repeated depressions of the button. Instead of a passageway 21 the rod may be formed with an annular groove, a longitudinal peripheral slot or an axially disposed passageway connected with the cylindrical surfaces through radial passages. Again, the rod may be hollow with suitably spaced orifices in the wall thereof.
