Class 75(1) [Also in Group XII] A liquid fuel combustion apparatus comprising a sheet metal combustion chamber a having at its entrance end a fuel spraying nozzle c, an annular air passage b, an air jacket d surrounding the chamber a and a radial flow air swirler e located in the air jacket d adjacent the air passage b has an axially disposed member f located adjacent the air swirler e and surrounding the. nozzle c to prevent premature entrainment of the fuel into the swirling air stream. In the arrangement shown the member f is hollow and its interior is fed with air from a passage g. the air passing, in a swirling condition, through obliquely disposed slots h each slot of which has a lip k provided on one edge to promote the swirling action. A further passage m leads air to a narrow annular passage n surrounding the nozzle c and to a part o from which air. flows through passages in the body of the nozzle c.
