Abstract

981, 371. Drafting textile slivers. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. April 13, 1961 [April 19, 1960], No. 13677/60. Heading D1D. Drafting apparatus for textile slivers comprises a pair of co-operating drafting belts 6, 7 and side control surfaces; preferably formed by plates 12 extending along both sides of the control aprons and beyond towards the nip of the delivery rollers 8, 9 so as to restrict the sliver width. As shown the side control members 12 are joined by a curved bridging member 22 which also acts as a guide for the lower apron 7. The upper apron 6 is forwardly guided by a plate 23 to which is connected a leaf spring 35 for downwardly urging belt 6. Plate 23 is connected to and downwardly urged by an offset extension of a member 36 pivoted about the shaft 21 of the upper apron driving roller 20 and downwardly urged by a leaf spring 40 acting through members 41 and 42, see Fig. 4. The leaf spring 40 acts centrally on member 41 the ends of which rests on the members 42 of separate drafting heads. The leaf spring 35 is downwardly urged by a further leaf spring 37 attached to the member 36. Loading may alternatively be by weights.
