Abstract
981,343. Rollers; securing rollers on shafts. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N.V. March 30, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12252/62. Heading F2U. [Also in Division B5] A heatable thread forwarding roller for forwarding and heating a thread comprises a metal roller and driving and heating means therefor, the heating means comprising, at least one magnet the lines of force of which are cut by a part of the roller. The magnet or magnets may be located within the roller in such a manner that there is relative movement between the roller and the magnet or magnets, the latter being either stationary or mounted on a frame which rotates at a speed or in a sense opposite to that of the roller. The clearance between the magnet poles and the metal part of the roller may be adjustable. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the roller 1 having a flange 8 is fixedly mounted on the tapered end 4 of the shaft 2 of a synchronous electric motor 3 by means of a nut 5 on a screw-threaded portion of the shaft. A thin layer of a solid heatinsulating material 7 is interposed between the conical surfaces of the tapered shaft end 4 and the correspondingly tapered bore of the hub 6 of the roller 1. Four permanent magnets 13 are cemented in longitudinal grooves in the thickened portion 12 of a cylinder 10 concentric with the shaft 2 and secured to the stationary easing of the electric motor 3 by screws 11. A sleeve 14 of electrolytically pure copper, having a thickness of 2 mm. and separated from the magnet poles by a clearance of 0À2 mm., is fixed on the inner surface of the roller concentric with the shaft 2. The roller may be provided with electromagnets instead of permanent magnets, and the coils of these electromagnets may be connected to an electric current supply the strength of which is adjustable.
