[Also in Division B8] In an article manipulator (see Division B8), gripper jaws are mounted on the end of a limb provided with joints equivalent to the human elbow, Fig. 4c, and to the human wrist, Fig. 5. In Fig. 4c, the member f is pivotable about an axis y1y2 by means of a fluid pressure actuator b<SP>1</SP>, the member f and actuator b<SP>1</SP> beng rotatable about an axis x 1 x2 relative to a member e by means of a further actuator, Figs. 4a, 4b (not shown). In Fig. 5, the member 21 is connected to a member 25 by a cruciform arrangement of swivel pins along axes y<SP>1</SP>y<SP>1</SP>, zz so as to be movable in the directions of arrows 22, 23 by actuators 26. The members 21, 25 are rotatable about the axis X<SP>1</SP>X<SP>1</SP> by an actuator through a rack and pinion 30, 29.
