775,024. Micro -manipulators. FONBRUNE, P. H. D. DE., and BEAUDOUIN, P. A. June 22, 1954 [June 23, 1953], No. 18275/54. Class 97(1) In a pneumatically operated micro-manipulator a flexible metal plate 20 about which the shank 5 of a micro-tool holder pivots and to which is rigidly connected is perforated so as to permit the shank to move in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the plate. Preferably, three mutually perpendicular manometric capsules 2, 3, 4 control the movement of shank 5, and the apertures in plate 20 have the form of circular arc 21. Preferably, each capsule is deformable in at least two membranes, one being attached to a wall of a case 1 and the other at 11, 12 or 13 being connected to the shanks 5. As shown,. bands. 17 and 18 transmit the movement of connecting rods 15 and 16 to shank 5 and each rod has flexible extremities to allow for the movements of the others. Case 1 and tube 19 carrying plate 20 may be made from electrically insulating material. An additional micro-tool 23 may be provided integral with rod 24 which slides in sleeve 25 which is fixed to the ball of ball and socket joint 27. A control rod 29 may be fixed to sleeve 25.
