Abstract
979,821. Pipe couplings. SOC. DU CARBURATEUR ZENITH. Aug. 23, 1962 [Sept. 11, 1961], No. 32460/62. Heading F2G. In a coupling comprising spigot and socket parts 1 locked together without screwing, the two parts have surfaces which extend transversely to the axis of the coupling and bear against one another, the peripheral or central portion of each of these surfaces being fixed to form stops, and another portion being movable in response to a spring, thereby to form a valve. The peripheral portion of one of the surfaces is spherical and centered on the axis of that part of the coupling on which it is provided, and the peripheral portion of the other surface has the form of a surface of revolution which is centred on the same axis as the corresponding part of the coupling, one of said peripheral portions being convex and the other being concave. As shown, a sleeve 2 slidable within a body 4 and against the pressure of a spring 3 has a conical surface 5 which bears against the head 6 on a fixed rod 7. The spigot has a central valve portion 11 on a rod 12 slidable in a guide 13 and against the pressure of a spring 14. A sliding sleeve 18 acted on by a spring 19 co-operates with balls 20 to force the latter into an annular recess 21 in the spigot when the coupling parts are connected. The sleeve 18 carries pins 23 which fit in grooves 24 of the spigot to limit movement of the sleeve outwardly.
