Abstract

959,603. Pipe joints. OLIN MATHIESON Ltd. Oct. 12, 1962 [Sept. 18, 1961], No. 33385/61. Heading F2G. A pipe coupling comprises two coupling pieces, one of which 1 is provided with a spigot 17 having a part spherical end portion 8 and the other of which forms a socket containing a copper or rubber sealing ring 12 in a recess whose walls 13 are normal to the contacting surface of the spigot, the spigot being pressed against the radially outer side wall by fluid pressure. The two pieces are retained together by a nut 3 which engages threads on the socket 2. The flange portions 16, 15 of the spigot and nut respectively have part-spherical contacting surfaces having the same centre of curvature as the spherical portion of the spigot to allow limited angular movement between the spigot and socket. The passage 3 in spigot 1 may be bevelled to allow maximum flow when the socket is angularly displaced.
