Abstract
855,275. Pipe closures. FLIGHT REFUELLING Ltd., and ROBERTS, H. Sept. 7, 1959, No. 30491/59. Class 99(1). A plug comprising a body 1 adapted to make a fluid-tight joint with a peripheral surface in a conduit 8, radially movable locking members 18 in the body adapted to enter a circumferential groove 23 in the wall 6 of the conduit, and an axially movable member 10 in the body which moves from the position shown in Fig. 1 where the locking members 18 are free to that shown in Fig. 2 where the locking members are held in the groove ; the axially movable member is held in the latter position by the pressure in the member 8. As shown, the locking members are balls 18 and the axially movable member is a plunger 10 having two portions 30, 31 of different diameters and a piston 33 on which the fluid pressure acts. Packing washers 4, 5 are disposed in grooves 2, 3 to make a fluid-tight seal. A bleed groove 37 in the surface of the plunger prevents build up of air pressure within the bellows 36.
