Abstract
The invention comprises a silver propiolic acid ester of formula <FORM:0977228/C1/1> wherein R is a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted by one or more groups which are not capable of forming metal salts. Thus R may be an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, cycloaliphatic-aliphatic, araliphatic or heterocyclyl-aliphatic group. Alkyl or phenyl-alkyl groups in which an alkyl group contains not more than 7 carbon atoms, are preferred. Substituents in an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic nucleus may be substituted hydroxyl or amino groups, the substituent being an alkyl or alkylene group, or nitro groups, halogen atoms, or the pseudohalogen trifluoromethyl. Substituents in aliphatic groups may be the above-mentioned substituted hydroxyl or amino groups, or halogen atoms. The compound may be prepared by the reaction of an ester of propiolic acid, e.g. the tertiary butyl ester, with an aqueous ammoniacal silver nitrate solution, preferably in an alcoholic solution. The product may be used for the preparation of acyl-propiolic acid esters.
