Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1017277/C2/1> (wherein R1 and R2 each represents a halogen atom or a trifluoromethyl group and the broken lines indicate that the substituents attached thereby are optional) and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting a benzophenone of the formula <FORM:1017277/C2/2> (wherein R3 and R4 each represents an optional halogen, trifluoromethyl or nitro substituent) with ethylene diamine, introducing a nitro group into the reaction product where R4 is absent, replacing said nitro group and/or any nitro group(s) already present in the reaction product by halogen and, if desired, converting the product into an acid addition salt, a methylation step for the purpose of introducing a methyl group in the 1-position in the product being included at any suitable stage if desired.
