Abstract

976,993. Electrically tripped switches; momentary contact switches. MINE SAFETY AP. PLIANCES CO. July 13, 1962 [June 25, 1962], No. 27004/62. Heading H2B. A momentary contact switch for the cardiac defibrillator of Specification 976,994 (Fig. 1, not shown), has a pair of spaced conducting plungers 24, 26 mounted on a rod 23 for rectilinear movement in a guide 31; a handle 22 for moving the plungers towards a first position where they are latched by 34; a spring motor 38 for moving the plungers rapidly away from said position when released by the latch 34 and a number of pairs of contacts AA<SP>1</SP>-DD<SP>1</SP> arranged to be momentarily bridged by the plungers during their movement. The latch release is a bell-crank 56 pivotable by a handoperated cam 59 or an electromagnet 53. The speed at which the plungers move, and thus the periods between successive makes and breaks can be varied by adjusting the tension in the spring motor 38 with key 41. Auxiliary contacts 51, 52 close an indicator circuit when the plungers are latched. The plungers 24, 26 are rotatable within the guide so as to present different surfaces to the fixed contacts and thus reduce wear due to arc erosion. Specification 976,992 also is referred to.
