975,234. Tractor power-lift mechanisms. MASSEY-FERGUSON (UNITED KINGDOM) Ltd. Aug. 8, 1961 [Aug. 13, 1960], No. 28100/60. Heading A1P. In a tractor-trailer combination in which the tractor has power lift links 10 and provision for automatic draft control which includes a valve 22 and a sensing device having a rod 24 and a doubleacting balance spring 25 and in which the draw bar 40 of the trailer has an eye 41 which engages with a hook 14A of a coupling member 14 pivoted to the tractor at 15 and connected to the draft links by a pair of links 16, and a device for transferring weight from the trailer to the tractor comprises a hydraulic ram 50, 51 pivoted to the tractor drawbar at 54 and to the sensing device by a universal joint 53 and lever 28. In operation the trailer is hitched to the member 14 when the power lift links are in the lowered position. On raising the links, telescopic bar 11 contracts until, at the required position latch 13 engages to lock the lift links in this position. The tension link comprising the hydraulic ram 50, 51 then actuates the hydraulic control valve 22 through the sensing device 24, 25 whereby fluid is supplied to or exhausted from, the ram 50, 51 so that a constant weight, depending on the setting of the hand lever 23, is transferred from the trailer to the tractor.
