Abstract
A powder mixture suitable for the production of a disintegrating gallery bullet by powder metallurgy comprises 70-83 parts by weight of lead powder, 30-17 parts by weight of iron powder and 0.1-1 part by weight of a thermosetting resin such as epoxy resins, polyesters and polyurethanes. The lead powder size should have a maximum of 2% plus 40 mesh and a minimum of 65% plus 100 mesh and the iron powder should have a particle size of 98% minus 80 mesh and 25-35% minus 325 mesh. Lithium stearate may be added as a lubricant and the lead powder should be oil treated prior to mixing with the other constituents in order to prevent oxidation. After mixing the powder mixture is compacted and cured for three hours at 300 DEG F.
