973,312. Converter tapping spouts. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 16, 1962 [April 21, 1961], No. 14500/61. Heading F4B. A container for molten metal, particularly a converter, comprises an outer metal, e.g. steel shell 12 internally lined with refractory material 13-15 and having therein a slot 12a, a nozzle plate 17 carrying a tapping spout, e.g. steel nozzle 16 and dimensioned to overlie the edges of the slot in any of a number of predetermined positions on the shell, and locating and securing means, such as a number of laterally extending fingers 20 on the nozzle plate and a number of spaced recesses 23, e.g. between blocks 22 in a cover-plate 21 welded to the shell and locking means for holding the fingers in the recesses, for any one of the predetermined positions, e.g. to facilitate the adjustment of the tapping spout when a new position is selected for the opening in the lining. The locking means may comprise outwardly extending key-wayed lugs 24 arranged on either side of at least some of the recesses to receive cotters 26 overlying each finger in that recess. The spout is preferably displaced from the centre of the nozzle plate so that it may be arranged at two different positions by turning the plate 17 end to end.
