Abstract

973,281. Thin-walled containers. PLASTIC PACKAGING Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 16, 1961], No. 21868/61. Heading B8D. A thin-walled container sealing member has a localized pressure part joined to a supported part at an abrupt shoulder defining a local weakness to be torn when pressure is applied. A lid 13 for a container comprises a polystyrene disc sealed to the rim of the container by an annular flange 14 adjacent which is an annular depression 15 bridged by four equi-angularly spaced ridges 16. Pressure on one of the ridges sets up a tension at the junction between the ridge and shoulder 19 formed by the outer wall of the depression and the flange 14 causing a split in the lid which can be easily enlarged and the container opened. For a tubular container the members 16 may be formed in an end wall integral with the container wall. Specifications 904,078 and 904,767 are referred to.
