Abstract

1411863 Containers LABORATOIRES MEDICOPLAST 6 July 1973 [6 July 1972 27 April 1973] 32278/73 Heading A5R An access port for a sterile container (e.g. a blood bag) comprises a one-piece injection moulding that includes a pipe 1 with a protective sleeve 2 on one end thereof, the sleeve 2 including flexible tongues 3, 4 welded together to form a closure over the end of the pipe 1, the closure being rupturable to provide access to the end of the pipe 1. A flange 7 is also formed integrally with the pipe 1 which is closed by a diaphragm 8 and has apertures 6 near its inner end. The tongues 3, 4 are joined along lines of weakness 9. The pipe 1 may be closed by a plug (17), Fig. 3 (not shown) which may have a skirt enclosing the end of the pipe 1. The pipe 1 is made of PVC and welded to a plastics container.
