Abstract

1428806 Closure for container P MARTI 31 May 1973 [7 June 1972] 25976/73 Heading B8T A plastics closure for a container has a pouring part attached to the container and a pushon cap which can be freed from the pouring part by squeezing its sides. The pouring part 3 is an interference fit on the container 1 at the corrugations 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and has a bell-mouthed spout 5, a female annular latch member 9, a decorative jacket 14 and a tear-out disc 24 with a pull-strip 26. The closure cap 7 has an inner guide cylinder 21, an intermediate cylinder 10 terminating in a male annular latch member 20 and an annular ribbed skirt 16. When the skirt 16 is squeezed, e.g. by a force at D the reduction in diameter causes the rim 18 of the skirt 16 to produce an upward force by reaction with the frusto-conical cam surface 12 and this force springs the two parts 9, 20 of the annular latch apart to release the closure cap 7. The cam surface 12 may be shaped to rise more steeply towards its centre line. The open end of the latch cylinder 10 may be divided by cuts parallel to its axis to reduce the latching load. Other embodiments show the closure sprung on to a narrow mouthed container 31, Fig. 2 (not shown) and also moulded integrally with the container 61, Fig 3 (not shown).
