[Also in Divisions G1, G2, G4 and H2] Apparatus to facilitate the assembly and wiring of electrical components on each of a number of panels of like size comprises a work bench 11 on which is provided a jig 12 for locating each panel 13, an optical projector 14 mounted in a fixed position for projecting on to the panel an image of each diagram of a series, receptacles 16 to contain the said components prior to assembly, each receptacle being identifiable by an electrically actuated indicator such as a lamp 21 individual to it, stepping means operable at will to change the diagram in the projector to the next in the series and indicating means actuating the indicators of the receptacles in dependence on the diagram in the projector. The projector 14 is adapted to take film strip contained in film frames along the strip and projects a first series of diagrams contained in a first series of frames on to the panel 13. A second optical projector projects auxiliary images derived from a second series of frames interspersed on the film among the first series, on to a screen 15. The auxiliary images may contain instructions or warnings related to the component parts concerned. Different kinds of circuit wire carried on reels 22 under the bench and withdrawable through holes 23 in the bench are identifiable by lamps 21<SP>1</SP> which are lit to indicate for each diagram the wire to be used. The stepping means comprises a motor 42 for advancing the film through the projector and a self-latching relay system controlled by the motor and manually actuated by a push-button. Indicating means to illuminate the lamps 21, 21<SP>1</SP> include an array of photo-cells and a binary decoder whereby code signals are recorded on each diagram in binary form and the binary digits are recorded on each diagram in optical form. For checking the performance of various parts of each completed panel, testing instruments such as meters and bridges 63 each with a probe set 64 are mounted close to the screen 15, each probe set being identifiable by an indicator. In a modification, the screen to receive the auxiliary image is located just beyond the panel position, the second series of frames and projection equipment being dispensed with. In another modification the diagrams are formed into lantern slides, the stepping means being of the kind for changing the slide in the projector to the next slide in the stack.
