Abstract

972,285. Power-operated brushes. HOLMAN BROS. Ltd. March 30, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 12432/60. Heading A4K. [Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A rotary wire abrading brush 10 of the cup type has its tufs 15 clamped within an annular channel 18 formed by an inturned flange 17 of a metal guard 16 which in turn is clamped by a nut 22 to a threaded end 21 of a hollow spindle 14 connected to the drive shaft 13 of a compressed air motor 11. The spindle 14 has apertures 33 in its wall and is surrounded by a stationary tubular shroud 26 having a suction outlet duct 30 branching therefrom and is clamped by a ring 28 to the motor casing 27 and is of such length as to terminate at 29 just short of the rear face of the annular brush 10. Dust-laden air is thus drawn from the space within the brush into the spindle 14 through the aperture 33 into the duct 30 which discharges into a filter (not shown). The brush tufs 15 are prevented from spreading under the action of centrifugal force by a steel band 20.
