Abstract

971,360. Lamp holders. SINGER CO. Sept.11, 1963 [Sept. 18, 1962], No. 35845/63. Heading H2E. [Also in Divisions D1 and F4] A light device, especially for use within the frame of a sewing machine, comprises two longitudinally disposed interfitting elements of moulded light transmitting material forming a lamp receiving socket, one of the elements having an integral extension forming a lens for the lamp, and a single mounting bracket embracing the elements and forming the sole means of securing the parts in assembled condition. In the form shown, the device consists of two socket portions 17, 19, Fig. 3, the portion 17 having an extension 18 formed with a Fresnel lens 41. The lower portion 17 has on inner wall 25 formed with slots 29 to receive ears 30 on a wafer of insulating material supporting rivets 32 to which the electric leads 22 23 are attached, the wafer being pressed towards the forward end of the slots 29 by a spring 24. The inner walls of both portions are formed with bayonet slots 26, 39. The portions are held together by a clamping member 20 which also carries a lug 45 by which the device is secured in a cavity in a sewing machine. The wall 12, Fig. 2, of the cavity has a ledge 44 which is engaged by a lip 43 on the part 18 when the device is in operative position, the lug 45 being bent so as to press the lip into engagement with the ledge. For changing the lamp, the device is pivoted downwards by means of a thumbpiece 42.
