Abstract
970, 888. Coin-freed apparatus. PRICKETTS Ltd., and C. R. PRICKETT. May 22, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 8082/62. Heading G4V. A cash box, in a coin freed apparatus such as a television receiver, comprises a lockable enclosure which is itself lockable to the coin-freed apparatus, the apparatus being held inoperative or capable of receiving only a few additional coins when the cash box is detached. In a television system the invention allows the cash box to be taken by the subscriber to an accounting centre for emptying. One key is used to detach the box from the apparatus and a second key is used to gain access to the cash. As illustrated the cash box comprises a container with a coin entry slot 11 and a removable wall 7 carrying a lock 10. The box carries a cylindrical plug which mates with a corresponding recess 36 in the coin mechanism 1 when the box is inserted into its housing at the bottom of the apparatus. A key 35 locks the plug by means of lock 37 which it embraces. Actuation of lock 37 opens and closes a coin delivery aperture in the coin mechanism 1 so that with the cash box detached the aperture is closed and there is no access to within the apparatus. The box also contains a slide which closes the coin entry slot 11 as the box is withdrawn from its housing, the slide being held open by a finger projecting from the housing into the box. When the box is emptied at the central accounting office the slide is cocked open on a latch from inside the box and when the box is pushed into its housing the projecting finger springs the latch and holds the slide until the box is withdrawn.
