1315971 Coin boxes JOHNSTON BROS (ENG) Ltd and A B BONE 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 16674/70 Heading G4V A coin box used in conjunction with a coin operated telephone includes a conduit 15 through which coins inserted into the telephone 14 pass to a lockable receptacle in the floor or wall. As shown the receptacle is a chamber 19 having a metal lining 21 in which a container 24 having an opening 25 is housed. A flap 26 for the opening 25 has two fingers 27, 28 which engage the inclined end of the sleeve 16 when the container 24 is placed in or removed from the chamber 19. The flap 26 is hinged with a toggle action so that the engagement of the sleeve 16 with one of the fingers 27, 28 opens or closes it. The flap 26 may lock automatically when closing the opening 25. Access to the chamber 19 is through two lockable doors 22, 23. Alarms may be fitted to all the movable parts of the apparatus. In alternative embodiments the receptacle may be on the wall of the kiosk rather than on its floor in which case the conduit 15 will be bent to the required shape. The sleeve 16 may be slidably mounted on the conduit 15 and be arranged to engage the container 24 when in its lowest position and may be lockable in that position. The container 24 may also be locked in position in the chamber 19. The flap 26 may alternatively be slidably mounted rather than hinged and arranged to automatically open and close when the container 25 is inserted or withdrawn from the chamber 19.
