970,329. Rotary printing apparatus. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK A.G., HEIDELBERG. Sept. 14, 1962 [March 30, 1962], No. 35071/62. Heading B6C. A rotary machine for direct or indirect relief printing, or offset lithographic printing, comprises a unit of at least three cylinders 16, 9 and 11, a feed table 1, and a rotating feed drum 4, the table and the drum being adjustably mounted in the fixed side walls of the machine frame so that each sheet to be printed may, depending upon the adjustment for direct relief or offset printing, be transferred to the cylinder 9, Fig. 1, or the cylinder 16, Fig. 3. The cylinders 16, 9 and 11 rotate in opposite directions in the embodiments of Figs. 1 and 3. The drum 4 is adjusted in position by means of eccentric bushes 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and the table 1 is adjusted by changing shims, not shown. The printed sheets are delivered by the cylinder 16, which is the impression cylinder in Fig. 3, to grippers 19 on chains 20. The chains 20, the inking arrangement 12, and the cylinder arrangement are all driven from a shaft 23 by worm and gear means. Fig. 3 includes a moistening device 27. The grippers 19 may alternatively feed the sheets to a second printing unit e.g. for multicolour printing. The feed roller 4 may be replaced by swinging grippers carried by a mounting bar pivoted on the same axis as that used by the said roller.
