Abstract

970,226. Binding posts. AMP Inc. May 15. 1963 [June 12, 1962], No. 19292/63. Addition to 944,544. Heading H2E. An electrical connector as in the parent Specification has a tapered pin portion 16 and a socket portion 3, the pin having sharp-edged serrations 12 piercing the insulation 15 of a conductor 14 when this is wedged between the post and socket, the taper of the socket varying such that the conductor is increasingly compressed in the direction of insertion of the post. The socket may have serrations, and may have one shown), or may have a diminishing taper from each end towards the centre (Fig. 8, not shown), while the port may have up to three constantly tapered surfaces (Fig. 7, not shown). Arrangements including various post and socket combinations are described, and a wire may be crimped to a portion of the socket and/or the pin (Fig. 14, 15, 16, not shown).
