970,056. Circular looms for weaving flat fabrics. J. C. BORRELL. April 27, 1961 [April 28, 1960; Nov. 3, 1960], No. 15332/61. Heading D1E. In a vertical circular loom for weaving four flat fabrics, weft is inserted from stationary supplies by two gripper shuttles propelled by electro magnets revolving round the axis of the loom. Shedding and beat-up are effected simultaneously for one pair of opposite fabrics whilst the shuttles are inserting weft in the other pair. At the entry side of each shed, weft yarn 11 is held in a vertical position by a yarn guide 12 and a suction tube 13 so that it is gripped by a gripper 14 on the shuttle 7 as the shuttle enters the shed. A pair of jaws 15, 15<SP>1</SP> descend in the open condition until they straddle the weft as it runs into the shed; when the shuttle emerges from the other end of the shed, the jaws 15, 15<SP>1</SP> grip the weft, the leading end of the pick then becoming disengaged from the gripper 14 as the shuttle continues its travel. The pick of weft is beaten up by a rising movement of the seed 5 accompanied by the jaws 15, 15<SP>1</SP> which cut the weft against a stationary blade 19; the jaws then open, whereupon the end of the yarn is drawn into the suction tube 13.
