Abstract
1,158,031. Gripper shuttle loom. H. OBERDORFER [trading as F. OBERDORFER], 22 July, 1966, No. 33216/66. Heading D1E. As a gripper shuttle, Fig. 4, enters the shed, Fig. 1, its grippers 16 take the end 22a of the weft from a spring clip 34 and draw the weft through the shed. As the shuttle emerges from the shed, it displaces a roller 40c to operate a hammer 40a, which passes through an opening 14a in the shuttle, thereby depressing the weft 22 into contact with a jaw 42a and pulling the end 22a out of the clamp 16 of the shuttle; the end of the weft is held by magnetic attraction of the hammer by the jaw. Simultaneously, or slightly earlier, a solenoid 38 lifts a plunger 28 which (by parts not visible on Fig. 1) presses the weft into the spring clip 34 again, damps the weft at a point to the right of the spring clip, and cuts it between thespring clip and the clamp. The shuttle traverses a channel 13 by its own momentum and is arrested by an endless belt 17 having teeth to mesh with teeth 15 on the shuttle. At the appropriate time, the belt 17 is driven to pass the shuttle to a continuouslyrunning belt 21 which propels it into the shed. Instead of being pivoted at the bottom on a shaft 10 as shown, the swords 11 may be pivoted at their mid point; a second fabric is then woven as the shuttle traverses the bottom straight part of the channel 13.
