Abstract

969,271. Drying cans. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Jan. 17, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 16054/62. Heading F4G. In an apparatus for drying cans 1, the cans pass down an inclined passageway formed by contra-rotating heated endless belts 4, 5 which respectively pass round pulleys 6, 7 and 8, 9 at different linear speeds to effect rotation of the cans. Closely juxtaposed air and steam pipes 31 and 32 are mounted adjacent each end of the cans to direct cold or heated air thereonto to dry the ends of the cans, and the surfaces of the belts engaging the cans are engaged by heater elements 16, 17 which are movable out of and into engagement with each belt on cessation and starting of operation of a motor 15 which drives the pulleys 6, 8. The heater elements 16 are arcuate in form and are movable by means of link mechanisms 19 and solenoids 18 controlled from the electrical circuit of the motor 15 and each heater element 17 is moved about an arcuate path 36 by a link mechanism 37 to 42 operated by a solenoid 43.
