A web-drying apparatus, e.g. of veneers, comprises an endless belt conveyer 2 having superposed cover belts 4, 6. The belt 4 is driven at a faster speed than the belts 2, 6 by continuously adjustable gearing which is associated with the drive gear of the belt 2 whereby any alteration of the speed of the belt 2 causes similar alteration to the speed of the belt 4. One or more than two superposed belts may be utilized of differing speeds.
