Abstract

966,501. Hydrogen thyratrons. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Oct. 15, 1962 [Jan. 8, 1962], No.727/62. Heading H1D. In a hydrogen thyratron, with a ceramic envelope, the control electrode is provided with a wall member surrounding the discharge space between the control electrode and the anode to prevent sputtering of metal on the inside of the envelope wall. As shown, the thyratron comprises :- (i) a cylindrical ceramic envelope; (ii) a cylindrical cathode 20 in a copper heat shield 2; (iii) a first control electrode (of copper) with a ring of holes 31; (iv) a second control electrode 4 comprising molybdenum spinnings 41, 42, 43 welded together and mounted on a copper cap 44; (v) the anode comprising a molybdenum working surface 51 brazed to a copper backing- plate 52 carried by a copper cup 53. The spinning 41 of control electrode 4 forms the wall surrounding the anode discharge space. Rings of holes in the parts 41, 43 are out of line with one another, and the holes 31 in the first control electrode, to provide a tortuous discharge path.
