Abstract

1,029,514. High-voltage switches. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 19, 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 42502/64. Heading H2B. A circuit-interrupter comprises at least one vacuum switch mounted in a tubular gas-tight insulating housing containing gas having a dielectric strength greater than that of air at atmospheric pressure to reduce the possibility of a flash-over the outer surface of the or each vacuum switch when its contacts are opened. Main load-carrying contacts may be provided within the insulating housing which is sealed in the manner disclosed in Specification 966,110. A series air-break isolator may be provided, the main contacts, vacuum switch contacts and the isolator being operated in sequence by the mechanism disclosed in Specification 898,463 and 898,462.
