Abstract

1,164,686. Vacuum switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 24 May, 1967 [1 July, 1966], No. 24136/67. Heading H1N. A circuit-breaker comprises two triggered vacuum-type circuit interrupters 10, 50 which are connected in parallel with one another in a power line 21, 22, at least one of the interrupters having relatively movable contacts 17, 18. A pulse source 64, 74 is provided for each interrupter, each source being controlled by an overcurrent relay 62, 72 connected to a current transformer 60, 70 in the circuit of the other interrupter to ensure that arcing is shared between the interrupters. The relay 62 is shortcircuited by contacts 66 which are opened by the circuit-breaker operating means (not shown). In a modified arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), both interrupters have relatively movable contacts. Fig. 3 (not shown), illustrates an arrangement in which a trigger gap 30 is provided at each of the contacts 17, 18 and electrodes 51, 52.
