Abstract
961,890. Waveguide terminations. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 23, 1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 19865/62. Heading H1W. [Also in Division H5] Microwave energy is absorbed in a cooling vessel containing a liquid which presents an inclined surface to the incident radiation. The microwave heater shown comprises a linear radiator 1 and a cylindrical parabolic reflector 2 arranged above a conveyer belt 3 for objects to be heated. The absorbing vessel 5 is divided into compartments by partitions 6 arranged in such a manner that water flows from inlet 8 to outlet 9 down a kind of liquid staircase. The configuration of the water surface is such that the incident radiation is dispersed. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the water falls down from either side of the highest compartment which occupies a central position.
