Abstract

896,422. Dielectric heating. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 14, 1959 [Oct. 16, 1958], No. 34838/59. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XL(b)] A tunnel furnace employing dielectric heating for heating foodstuffs or drying powdery or solid substances has inlet and outlet opening 4, 5 with inner cross-sectional dimensions exceeding the operational wavelength # each of which is provided with three pairs of #/4 stubs 9 to prevent radiation leakage. The openings may be internally coated with a lossy substance and may be further screened by grid rods protruding only a short distance into the openings. High frequency energy from a magnetron 1 is introduced into the treatment space 3 by a radiator 2. The substance 7 to be treated is passed through the space 3 on dish-shaped supports 8 by a conveyer belt 6.
