Foam rubber articles such as mattresses and seat cushions are produced by pouring a latex foam composition into a mould, covering the mould with a pattern plate from the lower face of which core pins project into the mould, an air space being left between the upper surface of the foam composition and the lower face of the pattern plate to prevent air bubbles being formed in the surface of the finished article by air occluded when the pattern plate is placed in position, as would occur if the mould was completely filled, and then allowing the foam composition to solidify.
