Abstract

960,574. Ignition systems. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 28, 1963 [April 5, 1962], No. 12313/63. Heading FIB. [Also in Division H2] Current flow in the primary winding of the ignition coil is controlled by a controlled rectifier the anode cathode circuit of which can be switched on and off by variation of a pulse applied to its gate electrode. As shown a pulse generator comprising a coil 30 and rotor 45 controls conductivity of the silicon controlled rectifier 22. The pulse generator (see also Division H2) may be adapted to develop positive and negative pulses. In a modification a contact breaker and a triggering transformer are employed to control operation of the controlled rectifier. In another modification a condenser is associated with a charging circuit which may be for example a converter a multivibrator or a vibrator transformer and is discharged through the coil primary winding by the controlled rectifier.
