Abstract
1,089,666. Ignition systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Jan. 15, 1965 [Jan. 18, 1964], No.1806/65. Heading F1B. A high voltage ignition system for an internalcombustion engine comprises a controllable semi-conductor thyratron 20 which can be fired by a forward control current flowing to its control electrode 25 from a positive terminal and can be blocked by a reverse control current flowing from its control electrode to a negative terminal, the semi-conductor thyratron being connected by its two main electrodes in series with the primary winding 23 of an ignition coil, and a control apparatus for the semi-conductor thyratron operable in synchronism with the crank-shaft rotation of the engine, the control apparatus including at least one electrical and/or electromagnetic (35) energy storage device connected at least Indirectly to the control electrode 25 of the thyratron for supplying a reverse control current thereto at the instant of ignition. In a modification (not shown) a control device for the system comprises two permanent magnets which are arranged on a revolving plate and pass closely by a semi-conductor resistor the resistance of which is increased 10 to 15 times by the effect of the magnetic field. Other modifications are described.
