In a pressure exchanger serving as a pressure equalizer and comprising a ring of openended rotor cells 1 bounded by end plates 3, 4 having high and low pressure inlet ports 6, 8 connected to ducts 5, 7 and an intermediate pressure outlet port 9 connected to a duct 10, the supply of high pressure to port 6 is effected by an ejector the nozzle 13 of which is connected to a gas supply at a pressure greater than that prevailing in duct 5. As shown nozzle 13 is connected to the compressor of a gas turbine plant and induces a portion of the intermediate pressure gas bled from duct 10 through a duct 12. In a modification branch 12 is closed off from duct 10 and is connected to a vent 14 to atmosphere. In a further modification the end plates are provided with a plurality of pairs of high and low pressure inlet ports and an intermediate pressure outlet port for each pair of inlet ports. U.S.A.
