Abstract

955,564. Axle-box suspension. J. VAILLANT, and A. VAUGOYEAU. June 2, 1961 [June 2, 1960], No. 20003/61. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle axle box 3, Figs. 1 and 3, is carried in a circular opening 8 in a beam 9 pivoted, through a rubber bush 12 and shaft 13, to a cap 14 secured under the chassis 15, and rubber springs 16 are disposed between the chassis and the beam, the springs being symmetrically arranged on each side of the axle 1 and above the latter and the pivot shaft 13 is at a distance, 17, below the chassis equal to the length of each spring 16 in its fully compressed state. The beam can move laterally against the deformation of the bush 12 and shear in the springs 16. The top of each spring 16 is secured by a screw 19 to the chassis whilst the bottom of each spring is centred by a spigot 22 on the beam. The extreme left hand spring 16, Fig. 1, is substantially halfway between the axle and the pivot shaft 13. The axle box has slides 6 guided by plates 7 secured to the chassis. A stirrup 24 is pivoted to the cap 14 and passes underneath the beam to support the latter if the pivot shaft 13 should break.
