Abstract

953,123. Waveguide ferrite isolators. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON - HOUSTON. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6656/61. Heading H1W. A rectangular waveguide forming part of a non-reciprocal ferrite attenuator (or isolator) is subdivided by conductive partitions extending perpendicular to the electric field, and ferrite elements are located on the partitions as well as on the walls of the waveguide. As shown in Fig. 3, in addition to the usual elongated ferrite slabs 22, 23, two further slabs 24, 25 are located on the conductive partition 21. All the slabs are subject to the field of a polarizing magnet 26. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), two partitions and four extra slabs are used. The invention makes it possible to use ferrite elements of optimum length-to-thickness ratio without the necessity for very large magnets. Further, heat dissipation is improved. The Specification describes a known method of solving these problems using two magnets 16, 17, Fig. 2, and four ferrite slabs 12, 13, 14, 15.
