1,010,451. Ferrite mode transformers. COMPAGNIE FRANCAIS THOMSON-HOUSTON. Nov. 13, 1961 [Nov. 23, 1960], No. 40510/61. Heading H1W. A device for transforming between the H 01 and H 10 modes in a rectangular waveguide G comprises an element P composed of a minor portion F of ferrite and a major portion D of a low-loss dielectric having a dielectric constant approximating that of the ferrite, e.g. alumina. The portions may have the prismatic shapes shown. The ferrite portion is situated against the narrow wall of the waveguide and is subject to a magnetic field at right angles to the direction of polarization of the transmitted modes.
