Abstract

952,423. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Sept. 13, 1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 34920/62. Heading H2E. A connector for use on both ends of a distributer lead can act as either a plug or a socket, and comprises a metal blank shaped to form a circular cylinder which is used as the plug, the ends of the blank being bent back within the cylinder to form the socket. Fig. 1 shows a connector 2 with ends 4 slit into teeth 30 which co - operate with the screwthread on a spark-plug stem. The cylinder 2 has a rib 22 for engagement with a groove in a distributer cap socket. A U-shaped extension 6 is crimped about the insulation of a lead 8, and connection to the core may be made by an insulation-piercing spear struck out from the extension 6, or by a ferrule integral with cylinder 2 and crimped around the bared core. Fig. 6 shows an alternative shape of connector in which a cylinder 36 has two pairs of serrated edges 38, 40 extending radially inwards to form a socket, and outwardly-bent ribs 48. In the embodiment of Fig. 10, one of the inwardly-bent tongues is slotted through the other, and the socketforming serrated ends of tongues 58, 64 may be moved apart by squeezing the cylinder.
