Abstract

950,909. Gas turbine plant. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. May 11, 1962, No. 18311/62. Heading F1G. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A gas turbine installation comprises a fuel conduit and fuel supply control means, the conduit and control means each being constituted by at least two mutually co-operating parts, these parts being so arranged that they are automatically brought into engagement when the engine is correctly installed. An aircraft has underwing pods in which are transversely mounted jet propulsion engines 16 which have rotatably mounted nozzles 23 as described in Specification 913,312. The engine is secured in its bay by means of a pivoted air intake 25 and a split annular member 33 which clamps together adjacent flanges on the engine 16 and casing 32 of the exhaust duct. Each engine is located in its bay by opposed trunnions 34 and a further trunnion vertically above the engine axis. Each trunnion 34 comprises a spring loaded pin 36 mounted in a bearing member 43 clamped between a member 43a and a cap 43b. A ball 45 engages a vertical track and as the engine is installed it guides the bearing 43 to locate it with respect to the member 43a. Lifting tackle is fastened to a yoke 40 (see Fig. 3, not shown). The vertical trunnion extends through the yoke into an annular bearing in the engine bay. A fuel control unit 53 is connected by a linkage to the pilot's throttle lever, the linkage including pivoted arms 61 on the yoke engaging corresponding arms on a pivoted member mounted in the engine bay. These arms are not secured together. The fuel conduits 72, 52 are joined by an internal conical surface of a spring loaded cap on the conduit 72 fitting over an external conical surface on the conduit 52. Similar connections are provided for air conduits 73, 74, and air bleed conduits 63, 65. The engine ignition is provided with an automatically engaged quick release plug and socket connection and a selfsealing conduit taps air from the compressor for aircraft control purposes.
