Abstract

1,032,274. Boundary layer control. MESSERSCHMITT A.G. Feb. 15, 1963 [March 3, 1962], No. 6136/63. Heading F2R. [Also in Division B7] An aircraft has two tail mounted ducted fan gas turbine engines arranged so that the fan draws air from the fuselage boundary layer and the compressor draws air from outside the boundary layer 3. The fan blades 6 are mounted on a ring surrounding the compressor blades and a wiring chamber 4 with guide vanes 5 is provided in the tail, connecting the two fan intakes, so that the boundary layer air is mixed with other air passing to the fan intake. Afterburners may be fitted in the fan exhaust, the turbine exhaust, or both.
