Abstract
1,056,616. Rolling. EUMUCO AKTIBNGESELLSHAFT FUR MASCHINBNBAU. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 29, 1963], No. 31081/64. Heading B3M. A mill in which a workpiece 5 is rolled between segmented rolls 1 and 2 embodies a workpiece feeding carriage 29 which moves towards and away from the rolls in synchronism with rotation of the rolls. A tongs carriage 9 is movable transversely to the rolls on rods 33 of the carriage 29, (Fig. 2 in plan, not shown) so that the workpiece can be rolled between the segments 4a, 4b, 4c &c. of further rolls. The carriage 29 is reciprocated by a crankshaft 25 driven through gearing 24, 23 from a gear 22 which drives the rolls 1 and: 2, pivoted levers 26a and 26b and connecting rods 28 transmitting the motion from the crankshaft to the carriage. In operation, the tongs 6 are operated by an hydraulic cylinder 7 to clamp a workpiece, and the workpiece is rolled between the rolls 1 and 2. The tongs and workpiece are then rotated through 90 degrees by a cylinder 10a and the carriage 9 is shifted laterally by a cylinder 34 so that the workpiece is aligned with roll segments 4b of a second pair of rolls. The workpiece is successively rotated and rolled between a number of roll pairs. The carriage is transversely located by means of a detent 18 which engages with annular abutments 19 on a bar 20, rotation of the tube 8 causing the detent 18 to be released from one abutment to engage the next one. Hydraulic cylinders 12a move the tube 8 relative to the carriage 9 in order to correct the speed of workpiece feed in relation to the rolling speed.
