Abstract

950,670. Spray carburetters; silencers. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Oct. 30, 1961 [Nov. 19, 1960], No. 38799/61. Heading F1B. [Also in Division G3] In a hollow annular, throttle regulating member 2 for an I.C. engine, the air flow is controlled by varying its internal diameter through variation in the pneumatic pressure in the space 3, which is bounded on all sides or only in the vicinity of the variable internal diameter by an elastic wall, the space being connected by a pressure feedback pipe with a region of vacuum or over-pressure existing within the engine, regulation being effected by varying the feedback pressure. When valve 17 is opened or closed the vacuum in crank-case 14 and intermediate pipe 12 produces a pressure reduction in space 3 through pipes 13, 4, which distorts the elastic wall 2 to decrease or increase the flow crosssection 11. In a modification, the elastic wall of hollow space 3 is bounded outwardly by the bore in the carburetter. In another embodiment the space 3, Fig. 3, communicates with crank-case 14 through a non-return valve 21. A vacuum is produced in space 24 by the vacuum existing in the duct 37 of a coolant air blower 38 by which the diaphragm 26 is lifted to admit air through groove 25 to pipe 27 in order to prevent rise of engine speed above a predetermined value. For cold-start conditions a valve 22 in fuel pipe 19 admits fuel into pipe 4. In a further embodiment, the overpressure produced in an engine muffler acts on the annular space and for starting a piston acting in a cylinder against a spring compresses the air in the annular space to reduce the throttle cross-section. The fuel pipe 7 is controlled by a needle 36.
