Abstract

949,660. Brassieres. M. C. FRIDOLPH. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 31813/62 Heading A3V. A brassiere which may be worn with a backless garment comprises a band 10 (Fig. 4) having preferably longitudinally elastic front sections 11 and extending side bands 12. Inelastic conventional cup portions 13 are secured to the band 10 along line 14, the central portion 15 defining a gore therebetween. The lower edge of band 10 defines a diverging angle generally a right angle, preferably obtuse. An upper preferably inelastic band 16 is secured to the side edge of the cup portion 13, and extends generally horizontally round the wearer. Bands 16 and 12 may be non overlapping, partially overlapping or entirely overlapping. Adjustable shoulder straps 18 are attached at 19 to the cups and include an inelastic portion 20 and an elastic portion 21 which pass through a loop in band 16 and are secured to the lower band 12 at 22. The elastic band 10 extends across the lower rib cage of the wearer and fastens to form an angle of 30 degrees to the horizontal. Several embodiments having varying constructions of the front band 10 are described.
