949,533. Quick disconnect couplings. PREFERRED ENGINEERING & RESEARCH CORPORATION. July 6, 1962 [Feb. 9, 1962], No. 26109/62. Heading F2G. A quick connect and disconnect pipe coupling for two pipe sections 10, 12 having flanged ends 14, 16 comprises a pair of locking sleeves 28, 30 slidable on the pipes, one of which is male 28 having a tapered portion containing a groove 36 and the other of which is female 30 having a bore containing a groove 66, and a radially expansible locking ring 26 arranged to engage in the groove 66 in the female sleeve and the groove 36 in the male sleeve 28 when the sleeves are moved along the pipes towards the flanges. The sleeves can be in two parts, the parts of the male sleeve being retained by ring 38 and the parts of the female sleeve being retained by a screw engaging in bosses 50 or other means or the sleeves can be of one piece. The sleeves and flanges contain sealing rings 20, 24, 62, 64 and rings 42, 54 serve to lock the male and female sleeves respectively in channels 46, 56 or 48, 50 in open or closed positions respectively.
